The Geriatric Medicine Modular Training Programme is a structured training programme that teaches basic principles of geriatric care to all non Geriatric/Internal Medicine Residents (excluding Pathology, Family Medicine, and Paediatrics).

Geriatric Medicine
Course Duration 2 years
Course Objectives
The objective of the training programme is to equip trainees with the skills and knowledge of evaluating and managing older patients in the hospital and intermediate and long term care (ILTC) settings. The structured programme and the close supervision of trainees will ensure the development of a safe and competent potential Staff Registrar.
Exam format
Trainees will be required to sit for 6 monthly interviews throughout the Diploma course. At the end of the first year, the examination will be organised by the Division of Graduate Medical Studies of Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, NUS. The examination format consists of:

a) Written Examination

b) Practical Examination which includes:

i. Short Case examination

ii. Long Case examination

iii. Viva examination.

They are required to complete and pass the first year interviews and exam before proceeding to the second year of training.

At the end of the second year, the exit examination will be organized by Chapter of Geriatricians and will comprise of:

a) Multi-disciplinary Management Round assessment

b) Viva station

c) Ward Round assessment

Applications for the 7th Intake in 2014 will open from June 2014
